Attorneys representing grassroots supporters of presidential candidate Ron Paul delivered a letter, dated Tuesday, May 22nd, to Oklahoma GOP Chairman Matt Pinnell challenging the “the legitimacy and legality of the purported selection of at-large delegates and alternates to the Republican National Convention at the May 12, 2012 Oklahoma Republican Party Convention.” The letter contends that the election of the State Republican Executive Committee’s national delegate slate is void because convention chairman Marc Nuttle failed to conduct the vote by roll call ballot as required in party rules. Instead, Nuttle called only for voice and standing votes, which do not take into account proportional weighting by county.

“We’re simply asking for the rules to be followed,” stated Lukus Collins, a national delegate from Oklahoma’s 5th congressional district. “This is not a grudge match. This is a black and white issue. State party rules as well as the convention rules clearly require a roll call vote by ballot for the election of national delegates, and that didn’t happen inside at the state convention.” According to Collins, a draft of the letter was presented to Chairman Pinnell over the weekend in an effort to resolve the matter privately, but the offer was ultimately declined.

The letter cites further rules violations, including improper adjournment while convention business was still outstanding. Following the sudden and chaotic adjournment – which included the lights being turned out and wall partitions cutting off nearly one-third of the delegates from the rest of the convention – nearly 400 delegates gathered in the parking lot outside to continue business as a rump convention. During the outdoor proceedings, an alternative slate of national delegates and alternates was elected by roll call ballot, according to Jake Peters, who was elected to chair the continued convention.

The challenge letter requests that the delegates and alternates elected at the outdoor convention be recognized by the Oklahoma GOP as the legitimate at-large delegation, and that national delegation credentialing be forestalled until the challenge is resolved. The letter indicates that the petitioners are prepared to take their challenge formally to the national Committee on Contests.

Steve Dickson, a precinct chairman and state delegate, said, “It is unfortunate that we are forced to take this action compelling compliance with our own rules. I hope that our efforts can prevent more problems, in particular the seating of our full delegation in Tampa, by addressing the blatant violations that occurred now rather than later.”

Attending your precinct meeting is the #1 most important thing you can do for Ron Paul in Oklahoma. But what exactly is a precinct meeting? And how can you make sure that you are as effective as possible in your participation? Well, … Continue reading →

Attending your precinct meeting is the #1 most important thing you can do for Ron Paul in Oklahoma. But what exactly is a precinct meeting? And how can you make sure that you are as effective as possible in your participation?

Well, come to our training session on Saturday, January 28th at 2:00 pm at the Norman HQ to get your questions answered by a real expert on the subject, Richard Engle. You may remember the inspiring speech he gave at the LiberTea Rally for Ron Paul last month. Watch it here:

Click here to view the embedded video.

Richard has a great deal of experience in Oklahoma politics, and is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to Republican Party rules and procedures. He has twice been a Delegate to the Republican National Convention, once as Oklahoma’s representative on the national rules committee. He will be giving a short presentation on how precinct meetings work, and then will conduct a Q&A session.

This will also be a great time to pick up some great Ron Paul swag like brochures, yard signs, car decals, and buttons to wear to your precinct meeting.

If you can’t make the this live training session, don’t worry, we will film the class and post it online. In the meantime, you can get a lot of info on the delegate process and precinct meetings at the links below:

Ron Paul OK, the grassroots-based organizing effort for Ron Paul in the Republican presidential nomination race, announced on Wednesday, January 18th that organizers met and chose their leadership for the Oklahoma state level campaign.

By unanimous consent, Lukus Collins was chosen to be the Director of Operations for Ron Paul OK, and as such will also serve as Spokesperson for the group’s efforts to win the Presidential Preference Primary in Oklahoma. Collins served as an Alternate Delegate to the 2008 Republican National Convention, holds a position as a Co-Organizer of the OKC Ron Paul 2012 Meetup group, and is the founder of the RonPaulOK.com website and blog.

In further action, organizers also chose State Representative Charles Key and former State Senator Randy Brogdon to serve as Co-Chairmen for the grassroots campaign in Oklahoma. Key and Brogdon gained national notoriety in 2009 when they joined forces to author and pass HJR 1003/SJR 10, which called upon the federal government to restrict itself to Constitutional limitations and cease infringing on states’ Tenth Amendment rights.

With leadership such as this, the Ron Paul OK operation is confident in its mission to identify supporters, provide positive outreach to undecided voters, and build momentum to victory for Ron Paul in Oklahoma in 2012.

Upon accepting the position, Collins said, “I am excited for the opportunity to help organize grassroots volunteers to elect the champion of the Constitution, Ron Paul. Dr. Paul’s strong finishes in Iowa and New Hampshire, as well as his recent surges in national and South Carolina polls demonstrate the growing momentum of his campaign. I expect that wave to continue building in Oklahoma and beyond. The OKC area volunteers and headquarters are here to serve as a focal point as needed by other grassroots Ron Paul groups across the state.”

As a longtime advocate of the principles of liberty espoused by Congressman Paul, Representative Key said, “Dr. Paul has led a tireless fight against big government for nearly three decades, and has proven himself as the only presidential candidate with the conviction to back up his rhetoric with real action. His willingness to stand alone when necessary in defense of the Constitution has won him the respect of countless Americans, including myself. I am honored to serve as a Co-Chairman for the grassroots campaign in Oklahoma, and I am proud to stand with Dr. Paul in his quest to restore America to her founding principles.”
Two-term State Senator and 2010 Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Randy Brogdon said, “I am inspired by Ron Paul and his dedication to securing the blessings of liberty, which are at risk today in our country. We need Ron Paul because he understands that our security as a nation can only be protected through the principles of liberty as laid out in our Declaration of Independence and protected by our Constitution. Dr. Paul is a man of steadfast faith and character, a husband of one wife for 54 years, and a pro-life OBGYN who has delivered over 4,000 babies. I call on all my fellow Republicans to stay true to our Party’s stated principles of a government limited to the protection of life, liberty, and property, and join me in supporting Ron Paul for President.”

Twelve-term Congressman Ron Paul of Texas enjoys a national reputation as the foremost advocate for liberty in American politics. Dr. Paul is the leading spokesman in Washington D.C. for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, sound money, and a return to a pro-America, non-interventionist foreign policy. He is known among both his colleagues in Congress and his constituents for his consistent voting record in the House of Representatives. Dr. Paul only votes for legislation expressly authorized by the US Constitution.

This is where you will sign up to be a delegate at your County Convention. Put Monday, February 6th, 7pm on your calendar now!

FYI, if you live in Tulsa County, your precinct meetings will be held Saturday, February 4th at 10 am. Details for other counties are listed below.

To find out what Precinct you live in, either check your voter registration card, or go to this link: http://www.ok.gov/elections/ppl/index.php

At your precinct meeting, you have the opportunity to propose resolutions to be included in the party platform, so feel free to do so if you like. You also have the opportunity to sign up to serve on a committee. Be advised, the Rules and Credentials committees have more power and import than the Platform committee.

You must be registered as a Republican in order to participate in your Precinct Meeting and go on as a delegate to the subsequent conventions. Here is a link to the voter registration form: http://www.ok.gov/elections/documents/vrform.pdf

It is crucial for our success in Oklahoma that we have a majority at these local conventions. Bring your friends and neighbors. Also, it’s no big deal to bring kids along, so don’t leave your spouse at home! Please let me know if you have any questions at all. Also for moreinfo, read this: http://ronpaulok.com/involved/ron-paul-delegate/

Conservative acticists find Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich equally unacceptable, with their flip-flopping and randomly liberal policy positions. They are simply not trustworthy enough to warrant a Principled Conservative’s vote. So who does that really leave them with?

There was Herman Cain, but he’s no longer even an option.

There’s Rick Perry, but even if a Conservative can get past the mandatory HPV vaccines, tuition breaks for illegal immigrants, and the Trans Texas Corridor, there’s still the simple fact that Mr. Perry seems unable to quit shooting himself in the foot with erratic statements and total brain farts.

There’s that other Rick, who endorsed party-traitor Arlen Spector, and may actually be too hawkish for widespread Conservative support. No Conservative will give John Huntsman the time of day (he worked for Obama after all), and none have even heard of Gary Johnson.

So, for many Principled Conservatives, it comes down a choice between Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul. I’ve been hearing this a lot from Conservative activists in Oklahoma. Fortunately, I expect that Michele will drop out well before Oklahoma’s primary on March 6th. Her fundraising has been very weak, and she has very little on-the-ground organization. Ron Paul on the other hand can dial up a million-dollar money bomb any time he wants, and has more volunteers than he knows what to do with; in other words, he has the staying power to take his campaign all the way to the national convention.

But leaving practical politics aside, what is it that Conservatives are looking for in a candidate? A person of conviction and principle? A commitment to traditional American values? A private life free of scandal? Adherence to the Constitution and the Founders’ vision for America? A true supporter of Israel? A high regard for the sanctity of life? Someone with a real plan to get the country back on track? Someone with a track record to back up their rhetoric? Ron Paul posseses these charactierstics in spades.

More and more Christian Conservatives are beginning to realize this, as demonstrated by Paul’s steady rise in the Iowa polls, to the point now that many political insiders are predicting a Ron Paul victory on January 3rd. Christian Conservatives are discovering an advocate in Ron Paul like they have never known.

Here’s my appeal to Christian Conservatives in Oklahoma: It’s time for this bandwagon to grow. It’s time to understand that you have repeatedly been betrayed by the Republican Establishment, but you don’t have to take it anymore! Ron Paul has the principles, the honesty, and trustworthiness that you so desire. But unlike Bachmann, he also has the momentum and broad appeal necessary to mount a credible challenge to Romney and Gingrich.

Join us in this epic battle to Restore America!

The results of the inaugural Oklahoma Republican Presidential Straw Poll were announced last night, and Ron Paul took the win in a landslide! Here’s the official breakdown:

Ron Paul: 46%

Herman Cain: 25%

Newt Gingrich: 17%

Mitt Romney: 6%

Rick Perry: 3%

Michele Bachmann: 2%

Rick Santorum: 1%

Gary Johnson: <1%

The straw poll was held online for a 2-week period from Nov. 21 through Dec. 5. This explains Cain’s 2nd place finish, since most of the voting took place prior to his announcement suspending his campaign. Cain himself spoke at the “Victory Event,” but evidently declined to announce the straw poll results, leaving that task to Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman, Matt Pinnell.

KOCO, Channel 5 was on hand to cover Cain’s visit and the straw poll results. Cain gets the lion’s share of the coverage in the segment that aired, but I did get an opportunity to comment on Ron Paul’s straw poll victory (at about the 1:20 mark). Of course, they severely edited my statement, cutting me off in mid-sentence, leaving it unclear whether I am a Ron Paul supporter or critic: http://www.koco.com/video/29929586/detail.html

(Just so’s ya know, that sentence ended with,”but the crisis we’re facing in America is bigger than the solutions that have normally been tried, and Ron Paul is offering those bigger solutions.”)

These straw poll results are a fantastic demonstration of the grassroots support for the Champion of the Constitution deep in the reddest of the red states. We need to seize this jump-start and continue building our momentum into the new year. This straw poll victory puts a powerful tool in our hands: legitimacy.

In the 2007-8 campaign, we were a stealth operation, trying to fly under the radar of a vicious and bitter Republican Party establishment. But this time is different. We not only have the candidate with the principles other candidates can only dream of, we have the candidate who can win! In the most recent NBC/Marist poll, Ron Paul is the only Republican who doesn’t trail Obama in a head-to-head matchup, even beating the President among independents and young voters.

Our task is to take these impressive poll numbers and make them a reality on election day. How do we do that, you ask? Well, a great way to continue building that all-important momentum is to have a huge turnout at the LiberTea Rally for Ron Paul coming up on Dec. 17. This is a golden opportunity to show our fellow Okies that we are not just an online phenomenon, but that we are real, live, voting human beings whose numbers are only growing. This will be your chance to meet fellow activists from around the state, pick up some Ron Paul swag, sign up for volunteer opportunities, and get inspired to win Oklahoma for Ron Paul!

The next priority is to get phone-banking and neighborhood canvassing up and running. But, in order to do that, we need to buy some phones and door-hangers, which takes money. Go here to donate to these crucial projects.

From there, we hit the phones and streets to build our numbers going into the local conventions, show up with a majority of Ron Paul Delegates, and send a slate of liberty-lovers to the national convention! It’s not gonna be easy, but we have the will and the enthusiasm to take Oklahoma for Freedom!
